Parker: England will go for the jugular in Montenegro
ENGLAND midfielder Scott Parker insists there will be no holding back against Montenegro tomorrow night despite only needing a draw to clinch their place at Euro 2012.
A point in Podgorica against their closest rivals for top spot in Group G would ensure qualification for next summer’s tournament – but Parker wants a win.
“The fact we only need a point doesn’t change our approach one bit,” said the Tottenham star. “Whenever we play for England we want three points. I don’t think Friday is any different. We are going there to win and qualify.”
Parker is being tipped to reprise the holding midfield role in which he excelled in last month’s win in Bulgaria, having missed the last game against Wales.
Manager Fabio Capello, meanwhile, is sure to depart after Euro 2012 regardless of England’s performance. Football Association chairman David Bernstein said: “He is our manager until the end of the European Championships. That is it.”
