Pace of staff recruitment slows down
STAFF appointments rose at the weakest rate for 14 months in October, with the pace of recruitment slowing in both permanent and temporary staff placings.
The Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) and KPMG Report on Jobs – published today – found overall demand for staff was reported to have increased at the weakest rate for a year in October, with recruitment consultants signalling a small rise in the availability of candidates to fill permanent vacancies for the first time in four months in October. Temporary staff availability increased at the fastest rate in seven months, according to the survey.
“This confirms that the private sector’s ability to compensate for planned job losses in the public sector hangs very much in the balance,” said Kevin Green, chief executive of the REC.
