Kheraj back at Barclays
HIGH-flying banker Naguib Kheraj is to return to his alma mater Barclays as a part time senior adviser, the bank said yesterday.
Kheraj, who spent ten years at Barclays from 1997, including three years as its group finance directorfrom 2004, has returned to advise it on “a range of commercial and policy matters”, the bank said.
He is also taking the title vice chairman, but will not have a seat on the board.
The appointment follows his surprise exit from Lazard after just two months as chief executive of its international operation, to focus on his philanthropic work.
Kheraj, a protege of chief executive Bob Diamond, has held a string of top positions at banks, including chief executive at JPMorgan Cazenove, asset manager Robert Fleming and Salomon Brothers, which became part of Citigroup.
He said: “This is a business and management team I know well and admire. I look forward to playing a part in ensuring Barclays continued success.”
His advisory role at Barclays will take up less than 30 per cent of his time, alongside which he will continue to chair the National Committee of the Aga Khan Foundation (UK) and the Endowment Committee of the Aga Khan Development Network.
