BAA cautious as traffic jumps but freight stalls
AIRPORT owner BAA’s passenger traffic rose one per cent in September compared to last year, the firm said yesterday.
But a 3.7 per cent drop in freight tonnage carried through its airports meant the firm is cautious about its growth prospects in the medium term.
At Heathrow, the number of passengers on domestic flights tumbled 10.5 per cent on a year ago, which was partially offset by a jump of more than five per cent in transatlantic journeys.
“Slightly softer Heathrow traffic in the latter part of September, vigilance in the near term from individual carriers and problems facing the European economy make us cautious about predicting traffic growth trends in the coming months,” said BAA chief executive Colin Matthews in a statement.
