THREE OTHER FIRST-RATE STEAKHOUSES
GOODMAN – MAYFAIR AND CITY
With a cultish following at its Mayfair restaurant, only the best cuts of beef need apply at this Russian-owned New York-style steakhouse. Beef is aged in a room on-site and served in a multitude of cuts, all cooked on a charcoal grill. A stylish, atmospheric interior and good drinks have cemented its success – both joints are always full. For addresses, see www.goodmanrestaurants.com.
HIGH TIMBER
Unlike most steakhouses opening these days, City A.M.’s local favourite is light and airy, with great views of the Thames and Tate Modern. The steaks come oozing and juicy on wooden boards, ornamented with roasted vine tomatoes, onion rings and mushrooms.?Best of all, Neleen Strauss, the sommelier and co-owner, keeps 40,000 bottles in the cellar. 8 High Timber St, EC4V.
REDHOOK
From the same people as Milk &?Honey, this is a bit of a cool-by-numbers sort of place, serving surf ‘n’ turf – meaning steak and seafood – alongside good cocktails. Don’t go for mind-blowing food – although we did have some incredible tea-smoked scallops – but rather for the convivial package. Sit at the bar first and enjoy the spherical ice cubes. 89 Turnmill Street, EC1M.
