EasyJet growth sends McCall’s pay up as airline alters targets
EASYJET boss Carolyn McCall earned almost £2m last year, a rise of 28 per cent, as the budget airline looks to overhaul its bonus structure at the behest of investors.
In a year when the firm reported a 28 per cent rise in profits to £317m and a doubling of its dividend, McCall was awarded a £1.27m bonus and total pay of £1.98m.
She hit targets to be paid 95.8 per cent of her maximum bonus, and chose to defer half into shares.
The firm has fielded criticism from founding shareholder Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou over the targets it uses to award bonuses and long-term incentive payments. EasyJet said in its annual report out yesterday that it will make targets tougher, and introduce clawbacks based on future performance.
Sir Stelios said yesterday that the changes will take time to digest, and that he will give his verdict during EasyJet’s annual meeting in February.
