Horse racing and music tie-up scores Doogan-Hobbs top prize
HORSE racing and music concerts may be par for the course these days, but there was not too long ago when they were deemed unlikely bedfellows.
We’ve got entrepreneur Liz Doogan-Hobbs to thank for the now often seamless shift from the races to the dance floor.
Yesterday, Doogan-Hobbs, who set up Liz Hobbs Group which provides music events after sporting events, became the worthy recipient of the coveted NatWest everywoman award.
The annual award aims to reward women who have achieved business success despite significant challenges. Doogan Hobbs set up the firm, which now has an annual turnover of £7m, after surviving a near fatal accident as a professional water skier.
And Julie Deane, who started the Cambridge Satchel Company, which makes colourful school-style satchels, picked up the Athena award for the most inspirational woman running a business aged between 36 and 49. In just four years of trading, the company now has a £9m turnover.
“With hard work and persistence – dreams of enterprise can come true,” said everywoman co-founder, Karen Gill.
