Froch intends to hurt Groves
WORLD super-middleweight champion Carl Froch has vowed to knock out George Groves in Saturday’s highly-anticipated rematch at Wembley Stadium.
The pair’s original bout in November was contentiously stopped in Froch’s favour in the ninth round, leading the International Boxing Federation to order they fight again.
A record post-war crowd of 80,000 have clamoured to buy tickets and Froch, 36, does not expect to go the distance with his plucky challenger.
“The judges might as well not bring their pens, they’re not going to need them,” said Froch. “George, you’re getting stopped and you could get hurt. I’m looking to do some serious business on him.
“I gave him the advantage in the first fight, allowed him to get comfortable and let his shots go. I took too many steps back, but I won’t be taking a backwards step in this fight.”
Londoner Groves stunned Froch in Manchester, flooring him in the first round before slipping to his first career defeat in 20 fights.
But the 26-year-old is confident he can emerge victorious this time and take Froch’s IBF and WBA belts.
“It doesn’t matter how Carl approaches this fight, he’s just not good enough,” said Groves. “If I perform like I have been in the gym, it might not even be a fight.”
