£15m Rodwell signs for City
PREMIER League champions Manchester City last night signed England midfielder Jack Rodwell from Everton for a fee of £12m that could yet rise by a further £5m.
The defensive midfielder yesterday underwent a medical with City and will compete with Gareth Barry and Nigel de Jong for a starting position. Manager Roberto Mancini had also targeted Arsenal’s Robin van Persie and Liverpool’s Daniel Agger, and though the former now appears out of reach, Agger’s signature could yet come to pass.
City have by their standards had a quiet transfer window but the arrival of Rodwell – who only two years ago was thought of as one of England’s most promising players – should pacify Mancini somewhat after a frustrating summer.
