UK firms party Gangnam Style at market bash
THE Honourable Artillery Company was the venue for the 2013 UK Stock Market Awards on Monday evening.
The third annual ceremony, compered by BBC Radio 4 sports presenter Garry Richardson, was held to celebrate all that is great about publicly listed British companies “and the equity market within which they operate”.
With that in mind, solicitors Baker & McKenzie won best legal adviser, the London Stock Exchange was named best exchange, Plexus Holdings received the oil and gas gong, and the top financial services firm went to Hargreaves Lansdown, while Numis Securities took best adviser and Inmarsat won the best telecom company title.
There were no speeches as recipients were hastily whisked on and off the stage. However, that did not prevent a token audience groan when HSBC’s investor relations manger Guy Lewis took to the stage to collect the best bank award. Not to a solemn orchestral piece, but to the tune of South Korean rapper Psy’s song Gangnam Style.
Turns out there ain’t no party like a British listed company party.
