Basics kept us at No1, says Kieswetter
ENGLAND wicketkeeper-batsman Craig Kieswetter has hailed a back-to-basics approach as the secret behind the one-day international recovery against South Africa that has preserved their world No1 status.
The hosts’ top ranking was endangered when they lost the opening match in Southampton last week, but regrouped to lead 2-1 and will remain top of the tree whatever the result of today’s final match at Trent Bridge.
Kieswetter could move up the batting order or Jonny Bairstow given a first outing of the series, after batsman Jonathan Trott was ruled out with a hand injury sustained in Sunday’s six-wicket win at Lord’s.
“We have just gone back to basics,” he said. “We went to the blueprint that we know works. It has been working all summer. We didn’t play as well as we could at the Ageas Bowl [in Southampton] but since then we have showed good character to turn it around. It is all just about improving as a side and continuing that momentum.”
