Benitez: Top four spot will be scrap now
CHELSEA boss Rafael Benitez admits his team have been dragged into a scrap for a top four finish, after suffering a second loss in three Premier League games.
Goals from Yaya Toure and Carlos Tevez followed a squandered penalty from Blues captain Frank Lampard, determining yesterday’s 2-0 defeat at Manchester City. Tottenham could leapfrog Chelsea into third if they win at West Ham tonight.
“We have to carry on to try to win our games and fight for the top four,” Benitez said.
“We are playing too many games, games every three days. You have to manage your squad. We can manage in the three competitions, we know we can do it. But if we feel we need to prioritise something we will do it.”
The Blues play Middlesbrough on Wednesday in the fifth round of the FA Cup, and already have six more games pencilled in for March. Arsenal are two points behind Chelsea, having beaten Aston Villa on Saturday.
