Woods forced out of US Open
FORMER world No1 Tiger Woods was last night forced to confirm his withdrawal from next month’s US Open as he continues to recuperate from a back injury.
Woods, winner of 14 Majors, has not played since March and missed April’s Masters at Augusta, won by compatriot Bubba Watson, and has consequently surrendered his world No1 ranking to Adam Scott.
The 38-year-old confirmed in a statement on his website he would miss next month’s Major at Pinehurst.
He said: “Unfortunately I won’t be there because I’m not yet physically able to play competitive golf.”
Woods will now hope to return at the Open in July, but fears persist that he may not be fit enough to compete against Europe in September’s Ryder Cup.
