Arsenal claim FA Cup double
ARSENAL Ladies captain Kelly Smith believes yesterday’s FA Cup final victory could mark a turnaround point for the Gunners.
The 2-0 win over Everton came two weeks after the Arsenal men’s team won the FA Cup with a 3-2 victory against Hull City. It is the second time the north London club has won the men’s and women’s FA Cups in the same year.
Yet the glory comes at a tough time for Arsenal Ladies, who are bottom of the 2014-15 Super League table after four games. Smith hopes that Arsenal Ladies’ 13th FA Cup win can spark an improvement in their league form.
“It was an unbelievable performance,” said Smith, who scored the game’s opener before Yukari Kinga sealed the victory.
“Credit to the girls after the difficult start we have had to the season. Hopefully we have proved some people wrong – it could be a turning point.”
