Juncker won’t give in to Cameron
A defiant Jean-Claude Juncker has warned Britain that he will not bow to David Cameron’s objections or yield to press coercion in his bid to become European Commission president. The former Luxembourg prime minister told a private gathering of party colleagues that he was seeking a broad left-right coalition in the European parliament to counteract reservations of EU leaders.
Pinterest expands ad platform
Pinterest, the online scrapbooking site recently valued at $5bn, is expanding its nascent advertising business by opening a self-serve advertising platform for companies to create Promoted Pins on their own. The San Francisco-based start-up has seen a flood of investment as venture capitalists are attracted by the number of retailers already using the site to promote their wares before it has even launched advertising on a mass scale.
PM orders improved mobile coverage
David Cameron has ordered ministers to improve mobile phone coverage across the countryside after becoming frustrated about the lack of reception in the often core Conservative-voting territories. Earlier this year, Downing Street asked then culture secretary Maria Miller to draw up plans to boost coverage of A and B roads following complaints from senior ministers.

More than 10,000 homeless demonstrators protested outside Sao Paulo’s World Cup stadium against what they perceive as wasteful spending on the £300m arena, just a week before Brazil hosts the tournament. It came as a strike on the city’s underground train network caused traffic chaos that ensnared football bigwigs.

BBC to stream World Cup in Ultra-HD
The BBC has announced that it will stream three World Cup football matches, including the quarter final and the final, in ultra-high-definition (UHD). UHD offers four times the resolution of 1080p high-definition video. It has been hailed as the next big thing in broadcasting.
Three scraps roaming in five countries
UK mobile operator Three is scrapping roaming charges in five more countries – France, Switzerland, Israel, Finland and Norway – allowing customers to use the internet, text and call home from abroad at no extra cost.

BofA could to pay $12bn over probes
Bank of America is in talks to pay at least $12bn to settle probes by the Justice Department and a number of states into the bank’s alleged handling of shoddy mortgages, according to people familiar with the negotiations. At least $5bn of that amount is expected to go towards consumer relief.
Burwell set to be US health secretary
The US Senate yesterday voted 78-17 to place Sylvia Mathews Burwell in charge of the Department of Health and Human Services, which steers implementation of the Affordable Care Act.
