Virgin’s Little Red struggles to take off with most seats empty
VIRGIN Atlantic’s domestic airline Little Red has been flying planes with mostly empty seats in its first year since launch, official figures show.
The UK carrier was introduced last March, connecting airports in the north of England and Scotland to London’s Heathrow airport. Data from the regulator, the Civil Aviation Authority, shows that just 37.6 per cent of seats were used on average in 2013, the lowest of all the airlines.
The figures, highlighted by the Sunday Telegraph, show that in contrast, British Airways filled 72.4 per cent of seats last year.
“We expected it to take some time for our customers to be fully aware of the service and we planned for comparatively low initial load factors,” said Virgin Atlantic.
