Jockey goads rivals at Ascot
JOCKEY James Doyle last night apologised for goading his rivals after piloting Kingman to glory in the St James’s Palace Stakes on the first day of Royal Ascot.
Doyle turned to face the field and pressed his finger to his lips after the 8/11 favourite saw off rival Night Of Thunder, who beat Kingman in the 2,000 Guineas, to win by two and a quarter lengths.
“I probably shouldn’t have done that,” he said. “I let my emotions go a bit but I got a lot of satisfaction from that. A lot of things were said after the Guineas and he’s proved he is the best of the three-year-olds.”
Richard Hughes enjoyed two Group One winners. Favourite Toronado claimed the Queen Anne Stakes, before Sole Power proved a 5/1 victor in the King’s Stand Stakes.
