Suarez revels in chance to silence his haters

URUGUAY striker Luis Suarez said his brace to virtually end England’s stay in Brazil was payback for his mistreatment while playing for Liverpool.

The 27-year-old was named Players’ Player of the Year and Football Writers’ Player of the Year after a stellar season in the Premier League. But Suarez has endured a chequered past, serving lengthy bans for racist comments toward Manchester United’s Patrice Evra and biting Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic.

Suarez said: “I dreamt this. I’m enjoying this moment, because of all I suffered, the criticism I received. So, there you go.”

England have now lost both opening matches at a World Cup for the first time ever and must beat Costa Rica on Monday and hope Italy win both their remaining games in order to scrap through to the last 16.

But defender Phil Jagielka expects to be heading home. He said: “There’s a small chance now, but we’re not exactly expecting anything like that. Everyone is devastated. We played pretty well, but not good enough.”
