Over four in ten Britons think the country is in good economic shape
Twice as many Britons have confidence in the UK economy compared to the same period last year, according to the latest Ipsos Mori data.
The Ipsos Global @dvisor survey shows more than four in ten rating the UK's current economic situation as "good", double the 21 per cent saying the same twelve months ago.
As recently as March 2013 just 12 per cent thought the UK economy was in good shape. The nadir of economic confidence among the public came in December 2011, when less than one described expressed their faith in the economic situation.
Of the 24 countries tracked in the survey, Saudi Arabia comes out on top, with almost nine in ten professing their confidence in their country's economy. Germany follows with 76 per cent, while the Chinese, Swedes and Canadians are also upbeat about conditions in their country.
Russians are increasingly confident regarding their economy following the annexation of Crimea, up eight points on last month at 58 per cent and significantly higher than the 33 per cent in the first quarter of 2014.
The biggest change for any country since last month is in Indonesia, ahead of July’s presidential elections, where economic confidence is up nine points since last month to 59 per cent.
With ongoing social unrest about the costs of holding the football World Cup in Brazil, just one in five Brazilians think their country is in a good economic situation.This has seen a sharp fall from 42 per cent this time last year.
The Eurozone economies of Italy, France and Spain are bottom of the list, with just one in ten assessing the economic situation in their country as good.
