British cyclists best in world
BRITAIN’S sporting reputation may have taken hits from Andy Murray’s Wimbledon exit, England’s shabby World Cup and a home Test series defeat to Sri Lanka, but we are the best around at cycling.
That’s the view of Sir Dave Brailsford, who masterminded Britain’s Olympic track dominance and the road racing success of Team Sky, as Chris Froome prepares to begin his Tour de France title defence tomorrow in Yorkshire.
He said: “We’ve dominated two Olympic Games and we’ve won the Tour de France twice. By anybody’s assessment, I’d say we are the No1 cycling nation in the world.”
Le Tour visits London for its third stage on Monday, passing through the City and finishing on the Mall.
