British World Cup ticket official arrested in Rio illegal ticket sale probe
Police in Brazil have arrested a British director of Fifa’s official corporate hospitality provider as part of an investigation into the illegal sale of World Cup tickets.
Ray Whelan, a senior executive at hospitality company Match, was arrested in a Rio hotel where senior Fifa officials are also staying.
Last week Brazilian police arrested 11 people suspected of being involved in a $100m ticket-touting ring in an investigation named Operation Jules Rimet.
