New sanctions reach Moscow
THE US unveiled fresh sanctions against Russian firms and decision-makers involved in the Ukraine crisis yesterday, with the EU also strengthening its stance.
Sanctions were levelled against oil firm Rosneft, Gazprombank and Kalashnikov. Regions which have declared independence in the east of Ukraine were also added to the list.
The European council added that it was looking into hitting groups that “actively provide material or financial support to the Russian decision-makers responsible for the annexation of Crimea”, a tougher line than was taken previously.
