No permit for Sussex shale
UK ENERGY policy came under attack on two fronts yesterday, after a local council rejected a shale gas drilling application and the government confirmed it would go ahead with its decarbonisation targets.
West Sussex County Council refused energy company Celtique’s application to test drill for shale gas or oil near the village of Wisborough Green, due to concerns about the traffic and noise impact.
Celtique accused local council members of not following “the spirit or the letter of government policy or good practice”. It is now considering further options.
Meanwhile energy secretary Ed Davey said his carbon budget, which aims to cut greenhouse gas emissions from 2022 until 2027, is on track.
