London buses: Now you can pay fares by tapping in with a mobile
In the march towards a future where you can do everything through your mobile phone, London buses are the latest to get on board.
Contactless payment system Cash on Tap is being accepted by TFL on all London bus routes and works in the same way as an Oyster card or contactless card.
Handy if you need to lighten the load and only have room in your pockets for a phone and it expands the ways TFL lets you pay since it stopped accepting payments made in cold hard cash.
Cash on Tap is only available to EE customers on 4G contracts using NFC-enabled Android devices- sorry iPhone users- but EE says it will have half a million customers who can use it by the end of the year.
For those who do tick all those boxes, tapping in with your phone is a useful addition to paying for your lunch in the same way. The likes of Caffè Nero, Pret A Manger and McDonald’s already accept it so it’s not beyond the realm of possibility that you could now simply swipe your way through the working week.
The service will also be available across London Underground and DLR when TFL introduces contactless payment to the rest of the capital’s transport network in September.
