Touchless bus fares pass first year
More than 6.5m journeys on London’s buses were paid for with contactless bank cards in the first year of the technology’s use, according to Transport for London. This represents less than one per cent of the 2.3bn bus trips taken, but TfL said interest in the scheme is growing as it passes its first anniversary. A trial will start on the Tube early next year, allowing passengers to get Oyster rates through contactless payment cards. “Each week we are setting a new record for usage which gives us great confidence for when we launch on the rest of the network and make contactless fully integrated next year,” said Shashi Verma, head of customer experience at TfL, in a statement today.
