Any Other Business – 18/12
ANDREW Sentance, senior economic adviser to PwC and a former member of the Bank of England’s monetary policy committee, is well-known for his rock’n’roll take on economics. So when The Capitalist caught up with him, we thought it was only right to talk music. The result? He put together a suggested playlist for Bank of England governor Mark Carney to play over Christmas.
Here are his three song selections:
1. The Only Way Is Up, Yazz & The Plastic Population
According to Sentance this tune has a two-pronged significance for the governor – the only way is up for the economy… and interest rates.
2. Ain’t What You Do (It’s The Way That You Do It), Bananarama and The Fun Boy Three
Putting interest rates up isn’t going to do the economy damage, more the way it’s done, according to the ex-MPC member.
3. Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood, The Animals
Despite its intention of reassuring markets, Sentance believes Carney’s forward guidance has left many confused about when to expect a rate hike.
