Bargain Booze owner appoints former Jessops boss as chairman
CONVIVIALITY Retail, the company behind the off-licence chain Bargain Booze, said yesterday it has appointed the former boss of camera chain Jessops as its new chairman.
David Adams, who is currently a non-executive director at Conviviality, will take over at the end of January, replacing Roger Pedder who will retire after eight years in the role.
Adams, who was executive chairman of Jessops for five years until 2012, led a restructuring deal in 2009 that saw the retailer’s lenders HSBC take control of the business. However, Jessops had to be rescued again from administration last year.
Additionally, he has held finance roles at retailers including Burtons and House of Fraser.
Conviviality said it has also hired retail expert Martin Newman and Steve Wilson to the board.
The group, which raised £64m on the Alternative Investment Market last year, aims to expand its cut-price chain Bargain Booze chain in the south of England from its north-west heartland.
