EasyJet rings in New Year with steady growth
EasyJet continues to show steady growth, as passengers opting to fly with the low-cost airline continued to increase through December 2013. The company saw passenger numbers rise by 3.5 per cent compared to the same time last year, reaching a total of 4.3m.
This marks further improvement for the company which posted positive numbers for the previous month. In November, EasyJet saw a 3.4 per cent rise in passenger numbers on the same period last year. The increasing popularity of the airline is being reflected in the company's finances.
On the 19 November EasyJet reported a 51 per cent rise in profit to £478m, while revenues jumped 10 per cent to £4.2bn.
Chief executive Carolyn McCall recently attributed part of the company's success to its new system of seating allocation. EasyJet passengers now have the option to pay to choose their seats or have them allocated automatically, free of charge.
EasyJet has also tried to set itself apart from similar low-cost airline by providing improved customer service.
The increasing popularity of the airline confirms that it is becoming increasingly competitive, with more established carriers.
Speaking in November, Carolyn McCall said:
Our primary competition is actually the legacy carriers, that’s who we’re up against. In every single primary airport that we fly into it’s about competing with Alitalia, Air France, British Airways, Lufthansa.
