Gymnast Smith makes comeback
BRITISH gymnastics star Louis Smith is aiming to resolve “unfinished business” at this year’s Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, after announcing his surprise return to the sport yesterday.
Smith has not competed since winning silver on the pommel horse at the London 2012 Olympics, but is desperate to go one better and repeat his gold medal-winning performance for England eight years ago.
“I loved competing at the Commonwealth Games in 2006 and I’d be so eager to be a part of it again,” said the 24-year-old, who won TV show Strictly Come Dancing in December 2012.
“This will be my last hurrah. I’m not done with gymnastics yet. I have unfinished business. Should I qualify, the opportunity to compete on home turf again is one that I will relish.”
Smith also won bronze in the team event at London 2012, where he was beaten by the narrowest of margins by Hungarian Krisztian Berki on the pommel horse.
