White Company founder and top bosses awarded bumper bonus
CHRISSIE Rucker, founder of the White Company, took home £4.5m last year after the home furnishings and fashion retailer reported a rise in sales and profits.
Accounts filed this week at Companies House also show that £2.9m was set aside to pay out a long-term incentive scheme for the group’s top managers.
The nightwear and bed linen specialist said pre-tax profits rose 4.4 per cent to £4.7m in the year to 30 March 2013.
Turnover across the group’s 41 stores increased by 4.5 per cent to £58m and the retailer said trading over the Christmas period was particularly strong.
“The directors were very pleased with trading during the year, particularly in the context of an extremely difficult trading environment in the UK,” it said in a statement.
The accounts show that the retailer’s highest paid shareholder, assumed to be Rucker, earned £4.5m last year, down from £5.65m the previous year.
Rucker, who founded the retailer in 1993, is married to Nick Wheeler, the founder of shirtmaker Charles Tyrwhitt who is also a shareholder in the group.
