Sellar Property plots 27-storey residential tower next to Shard
THE DEVELOPERS behind The Shard are planning to build a 27-storey, luxury residential tower next to the iconic skyscraper in London Bridge.
The 160,000 square feet building, which was revealed at a public consultation yesterday, will contain around 150 apartments, as well as new public space and shops.
Renzo Piano, the architect behind the Shard, is to design the building as part of the LBQ estate, which also includes News UK’s new headquarters The Place.
The project, which is being developed by Sellar with the State of Qatar, will replace Fielden House, a 1970s office block on London Bridge Street.
The building is the latest in a string of residential towers being planned on the back of soaring house prices in the capital.
Private equity group Carlyle is building a 49-storey residential tower next to Blackfriars bridge while China’s Greenland is understood to be plotting a skyscraper in Canary Wharf.
Despite rising demand, the Shard’s 10 luxury flats are understood to still be lying vacant.
