Ex Co-op chief executive steps down from Thomas Cook board
FORMER Co-op Group chief executive Peter Marks has announced his resignation from the board of Thomas Cook, according to the tourism firm.
Marks will finish his time at the company after the group’s AGM in February, and be replaced by Emre Berkin, currently a non-executive director of Thomas Cook.
“I would like to thank Peter for his support and contribution as a board member and as chair of the health, safety & environmental committee. My fellow directors and I wish him well for the future,” said chairman Frank Meysman.
Marks found his way to Thomas Cook’s board after Co-op Travel embarked on a joint venture with the company, and kept his position after he resigned from his Co-op post in 2012. He worked within the Co-op from 1967.
Late last year, Marks was put under the spotlight for his time at the Co-op by the MPs on the Treasury Select Committee, following the mutual’s banking offshoot’s ill-fated merger with Britannia.
Marks defended his record at the bank, insisting that he did not act outside of his role as a non-executive director.
