Garcia in blast at Abu Dhabi
WORLD No10 Sergio Garcia branded the Abu Dhabi golf course “dangerous” after struggling to an opening round 76 at the HSBC Golf Championship yesterday.
The Spaniard injured his shoulder during the Pro-Am and required treatment from a European Tour physio for three holes of his first round after hitting from the rough caused him to “tweak a muscle”.
Five-time Major winner Phil Mickelson injured his back at the 18th, though resisted echoing Garcia’s comments after finishing on 73, saying: “There’s nothing unfair about it, it’s just difficult”.
England’s Matthew Baldwin holds a share of the lead with Rafa Cabrera-Bello and Romain Wattel, who all shot five-under rounds of 67.
