Mervyn King and Lily Allen chat music at first day of Ashes Test
SIR MERVYN King was continuing to enjoy his retirement yesterday. After being spotted watching the tennis at Wimbledon earlier in the month, the former Bank of England governor was at Lord’s for the first day of the second Ashes Test.
However, King was not chatting with fellow banking or even cricket chums – he was waxing lyrical with pop singer Lily Allen. Apparently the pair chatted about King’s recent choices on radio programme Desert Island Discs, with King admitting that Rotterdam ‘82 by Doug O’Brien may not have been the highlight of his song selection.
However, King and Allen were not the only famous faces in the crowd. The Queen and comedian Stephen Fry were supporting the English team, while Ozzie actors Russell Crowe and Hugh Jackman were rooting for Australia.
