United boss prepares to concede defeat in £30m Fabregas pursuit
MANCHESTER United manager David Moyes has admitted he may have to give up his pursuit of Barcelona’s Cesc Fabregas after having a second bid turned down for the midfielder.
Moyes confirmed yesterday that United had submitted an improved offer for the former Arsenal star, after having an initial £25m bid rebuffed last week.
However Barcelona, who are set to appoint Gerardo Martino to succeed Tito Vilanova as manager, are determined not to sell their 26-year-old and Moyes knows he may have to concede defeat.
“I think a point does come,” said Moyes, whose team play Yokohoma F. Marinos today.
“But when you are interested in good players you want to give it every opportunity to materialize.”
Meanwhile, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has dismissed the notion he is close to completing a £20m deal to sign Atletico Mineiro midfielder Bernard.
Wenger confirmed “That report is not true,” after seeing his side beat former Japanese employers Nagoya Grampus 3-1.
