Fat Face to bulk up in the States
CLOTHING brand Fat Face is aiming to crack the American market in the next two years, the firm said as it posted record annual sales.
Fat Face yesterday confirmed plans to open its first store in the US and launch a dedicated website for American customers.
It posted a 12 per cent rise in turnover to £179m, plus a 35 per cent jump in earnings to £31.2m.
The group said its website’s sales had grown 27 per cent in the year to 1 June. It opened 10 new stores and rejigged a further 15 in the period, taking its total number of shops past 200.
“I expect the market to remain highly competitive,” said chief executive Anthony Thompson. “However, consumer sentiment appears to be more optimistic than 12 months ago.”
Former M&S boss Sir Stuart Rose is joining the firm this week as chairman, while Selecta’s chief financial officer Helen Cowing will take the same role at Fat Face on 1 August.
Fat Face was founded in 1988 in the French Alps and bought by Bridgepoint in 2007.
