Chinese police detail further GlaxoSmithKline’s alleged crimes
Chinese police have released more details of GlaxoSmithKline’s (GSK) alleged bribery crimes in China, saying that sales agents were trained to build relationships with doctors by offering money and “catering to their pleasures”.
Citing sources in the police force, China's official news agency Xinhua reports that bribes of ten to 20 yuan were offered each time doctors prescribed GSK products. Before taking a post, GSK salespeople in China would allegedly receive special training on sales skills and methods, including how to maintain relationships with hospitals and doctors.
The police sources reportedly said around seven to ten per cent of sales volume went to doctors personal accounts, with doctors agreeing to cooperate paid on the basis of how many products they sold and rewarded with gifts and invites to academic meetings or lectures.
