Ex-British Lion gets teeth stuck into new role
I AM (a former) Lion, hear me roar was the shout yesterday as it was announced that ex-England and Lions rugby star Tim Rodber had been appointed the new chief executive of property outsourcing firm Instant.
Rodber, who was part of the winning Lions team that beat South Africa in 1997, was top dog at outsourcers Williams Lea for over 10 years and left in February this year.
“I had five months off which was quite nice,” he told The Capitalist yesterday: “I spent time with the kids and recharged the batteries – and had my left knee operated on.”
So would Rodber follow former rugby star Josh Lewsey – who set sail from his trading job at Citi earlier this year to take a performance director job with the Cornish Pirates – and return to the game?
It seems that wild horses – or lions – couldn’t drag him back: “I retired when I was 30 and have deliberately stayed away since. You can only play rugby for as long as your body – and your mind – can keep going. I’ve managed to forge a career in business and long may that continue.”
