Tesco and Waitrose set to open Tube shops
Tesco and Waitrose are opening six click-and-collect points each in the London Underground this year, as part of TfL’s efforts to get more retailers using the Tube.
The supermarkets will follow Asda, which is running a six-month trial in carparks near Tube stations, with ambitions to open more outlets.
Tesco will launch at station car parks in February at:
- Osterley (Piccadilly Line)
- Newbury Park (Central Line)
- Rayners Lane (Piccadilly, Metropolitan)
- Finchley Central (Northern)
- Arnos Grove (Piccadilly)
- Cockfosters (Piccadilly)
Waitrose is yet to confirm where it will open.
Supermarkets are not the only retailers to try and catch shoppers during their commute. InPost UK, which installs automated parcel lockers for customers to collect online orders, is starting services at three stations soon.
Network Rail said last month it will trial parcel shops named Doddle, starting in Milton Keynes.
And commuters at Blackfriars will have already seen the world’s first flower vending machine, launched last week by Rockflower (pictured).
Trading has been going very well so far, says founder Andrew McAlpine – with the 24-hour opening particularly popular with late-night commuters in need of a bouquet for their return home.
