Shard View has 1st birthday bash
CHAMPAGNE was flowing on the upper reaches of the Shard last night as The View From The Shard, the panoramic tourist trap on the 68, 69 and 71st floors of Renzo Piano’s masterpiece, celebrated its first birthday. Tunes were supplied by original Sugababes or MKS (Mutya, Keisha and Siobhan) as we’re calling them now, followed by Rob Da Bank. Meanwhile, Great British Bake Off winner Frances Quinn created an edible Shard: “I wasn’t sure it would stand up!” she confessed to The Capitalist.
The Shard Father himself, Irvine Sellar, was there with daughter Caroline, mingling with a contented smile: “It looks every bit as good as I’d hoped it would,” he told The Capitalist. “It’s Londoners’ now, it’s not just my baby anymore.”
The developer couldn’t stick around to see the entertainment though. “Not because of the strikes, I’ve got a very early meeting,” he whispered, before suggesting City AM move in downstairs…
