Shangri-La in the Shard to open in May
LUXURY hotel group Shangri-La has finally set a date for the launch of its five star hotel in the Shard almost a year after the much-delayed scheme was first scheduled to open.
The Hong Kong-based company, which first launched in Singapore in 1971, said the 202-room hotel will open its doors to guests on 6 May, with rates starting at £450 per night and rising as high as £3,250 per night for a suite.
The £40m hotel will occupy floors 32 to 54 in the 72 storey skyscraper which was designed by Renzo Piano.
It is Shangri-La’s third hotel in Europe following the launch of Istanbul in 2013 and Paris in 2010.
Fit-out delays in September caused Shangri-La to change its contractor, forcing it to push forward the opening date.
