What you need to know before the US open – 07/02
When US markets open, investors will be responding to some disappointing data just in: only 113,000 people were hired in January, after expectations that 185,000 jobs would be added to non farm payrolls.
This morning, stock futures were up slightly on the hope that the numbers would be strong. The S&P 500 was up 0.51 per cent, the Nasdaq 0.65 per cent and the Dow 0.39 per cent.
Equities are still down over the month, despite the rally seen yesterday.
European markets have subdued on the news that the German constitutional court has referred the European Central Bank’s bond-buying programme to the European Court of Justice, saying it may violate the bank’s mandate.
