Suarez wants peace with Liverpool but Henry will still block Arsenal move
ARSENAL target Luis Suarez hopes to come to a “friendly” resolution with Liverpool over his ongoing transfer saga but owner John W Henry is adamant the Uruguayan is going nowhere.
The striker was yesterday forced to train on his own after manager Brendan Rodgers expressed his unhappiness at Suarez’s attitude.
He has also rejected Suarez’s claim that Liverpool have reneged on an agreement made last summer which would allow the player to leave for a team qualified to play in the Champions League.
The 26-year-old remains determined to leave the Reds though and would like to do so on more amicable terms.
“My aim is to reach an agreement with the club in a friendly manner and I hope the clause we agreed a year ago is fulfilled,” said Suarez.
“Up to now, it hasn’t been. I like things to be clear and a year ago I made my position to the club clear.
“A Champions League team is making a big effort to get me and one always wants to be where they feel comfortable.”
However, Henry has made it clear he is not willing to sell Suarez to any club, believing the striker to be the key in getting Liverpool back into the Champions League.
“We are not going to sell Luis,” said Henry. “To sell to a rival would be ludicrous.
“Liverpool needs to be playing in Europe. It needs to be playing in the Champions League. That’s what Liverpool Football Club is about.
“I’m unequivocal that we won’t sell to Arsenal whatever the bid is. He won’t be sold even if a foreign club comes in because we do not have time to sign a suitable replacement. It’s a football reason, it’s not about finances.”
