Toyota pulls 1.9m cars after software bug causes them to stop dead
Toyota is having to withdraw 1.9m vehicles from the roads due to a nasty software glitch.
The bug is causing some Prius hybrids to stop completely, as "the setting of the software could cause higher thermal stress in certain transistors".
That overheating will cause "various warning lights" to go on, and "will probably cause the vehicle to enter a failsafe mode".
At that point, the car will either be motionless or the driver will have limited driving power available.
There have been no accidents or injuries as a result.
Half of the recalls will take place in Japan, with 713,000 in North America. 2012 saw the car manufacturer issue two multi-million recalls.
At least they're not sentient yet.
