Premier League: Last-minute defeat was tough to take, confesses Meulensteen
FULHAM 2 vs LIVERPOOL 3
FULHAM boss Rene Meulensteen admitted surrendering a valuable point in second-half stoppage time was difficult to accept after his side stayed glued to the foot of the Premier League table last night.
The Cottagers led twice, but England captain Steven Gerrard slotted in a 91st-minute penalty to nab the points.
Meulensteen said: “We deserved a point for the effort that went in and the chances created, particularly in the first half. It’s very hard to take.”
Fulham took the lead on eight minutes through a calamitous Kolo Toure own goal, but Daniel Sturridge levelled shortly before half-time.
Kieran Richardson edged Fulham back in front on 63 minutes, but Philippe Coutinho equalised nine minutes later before Gerrard’s late winner from the spot.
