Premier League: Adebayor laps up the plaudits as Spurs romp to four-goal victory
NEWCASTLE UNITED 0 vs TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR 4
TOTTENHAM manager Tim Sherwood praised striker Emmanuel Adebayor’s attitude after the rejuvenated striker took his tally to six goals in seven Premier League games last night.
A goal from Adebayor in both halves, plus strikes from Paulinho and substitute Nacer Chadli, earned Spurs their biggest league win since Boxing Day 2012.
Adebayor was exiled to train with the development squad in the first half of the season by former manager Andre Villas-Boas, but has rekindled his best form under Sherwood, who insists all the credit must go to the Togo striker.
“There’s no secret, I just treat them as men,” he said. “All the credit goes to him [Adebayor].
“He didn’t have a pre-season. He’s a freak with his physical attributes, the way he trains is magnificent and he’s a good example to all the young players at his club.”
Adebayor tapped in Nabil Bentaleb’s cross on 19 minutes and Paulinho doubled Spurs’ advantage on 53 minutes, following up after goalkeeper Tim Krul had pushed away Adebayor’s low shot.
With eight minutes remaining Adebayor volleyed in after Krul pushed out substitute Andros Townsend’s initial effort and, on 88 minutes, Chadli struck his first league goal for the club, firing in spectacularly from 25 yards.
“We’re going to do as much as we can,” added Sherwood, with Spurs three points off fourth-place.
“We’ve not won at Newcastle in 10 years, so let’s hope we can keep breaking records.”
