Cameron pledges £5,000 for UK homeowners hit by flood damage
DAVID Cameron said yesterday he would make £5,000 available to every home and business hit by flooding, as gale-force winds disrupted trains, closed roads and cut power to vast swathes of the country.
The Prime Minister reiterated his pledge to spend whatever it takes to help get communities back on their feet after heavy rain damaged homes and transport links. Homeowners and businesses will be entitled to a £5,000 grant to help them build defences to prevent water breaching their properties in future. The Prime Minister also pledged £10m to help farmers clear land when the water subsides and promised more money to tackle areas of the railway that have been badly damaged.
More banks joined the call for help, with Lloyds and Barclays announcing financial packages to match RBS’s £250m commitment, with HSBC, Santander and Nationwide pledging further support.
