Glencore Xstrata announce combined production figures following merger
Glencore Xstrata has announced production figures for the first half of the year as a combined basis following its merger on 2 May 2013 (report).
Key highlights include a 20 per cent increase in total own sourced copper production (673,400 tonnes), primarily due to a 42 per cent boost in Africa. Own sourced gold production rose 14 per cent.
Zinc production fell three per cent due to declines from the ageing Brunswick and Perseverance mines, partially offset by seven per cent growth in Australia.
Coal production in the Prodeco facility in South America rose 22 per cent to 9.6m tonnes, thanks to the success of an expansion plan and recovery from a strike in the second half of 2012.
The company has also agreed to sell off Joe White Maltings of Australia to Cargill as part of the Viterra acquisition, subject to regulatory approvals.
