Devastated Johnson-Thompson misses World Indoors qualifying
BRITISH athlete Katarina Johnson-Thompson last night revealed her devastation after illness forced her to miss yesterday’s World Indoor Championships qualifying, seemingly ending her hopes of competing in the pentathlon at next month’s event in Poland.
The 21-year-old, who finished 15th in the heptathlon at London 2012, was due to compete in Holland yesterday, but must now hope for an unlikely wild card entry to the World Indoors, which commence on 7 March.
She wrote on Twitter: “Had to pull out of my pentathlon qualifier through illness. All my indoor season was leading up to this. I was ready. Absolutely devastated.”
Johnson-Thompson could still be selected to appear in Sopot however, having achieved the qualification mark in both the long jump and high jump at the recent British Indoor Championships.
