Morgan: government proud of record on female employment
A MINISTER has hit back at a damning report which levels heavy criticism at the coalition for its record on female employment.
The Fawcett Society research suggests that under-employment of women has nearly doubled since 2008, with 371,000 women having moved into self-employment, an occupation the campaign group claims is traditionally poorly paid.
Hitting back at the claims, minister for women and equalities Nicky Morgan said the government was focused on giving women flexible working options, adding that self-employment was a positive trend. “In 2012, 20 per cent of small and medium sized businesses were either run solely or mostly by women,” Morgan said.
“I’m pleased that every FTSE 100 board now includes a woman and more businesses are recognising the skills and experience that diversity brings to a workplace.”
Labour’s Gloria De Piero said the recovery wasn’t working for women.
